Methamphetamine Epidemic Teach-in

Join ACT UP NY on January 25th for a teach-in followed by a Q&A with Dr Perry Halkitis about the Meth epidemic

among gay men in NYC, especially among gay men of color

On Facebook: Dr Halkitis Talks about Meth with ACT UP NY,

1/25/16, 7 - 9 pm, room 301 at the NYC LGBT Center,

208 W 13 St between 7th & 8th Aves.

Dr Halkitis has a PhD Psychology; he is a teacher and researcher at NYU, focusing on gay men, HIV, drug use and mental health.

The current era of Meth (Tina/Crystal/etc) in NYC started in the early 90s after a more potent version emerged nationwide, and was initially concentrated in affluent gay circles. In 2004, activist Peter Staley aggressively campaigned to raise awareness, but that success has proven temporary. Many of us see a growing trend in use.
Today, meth is as potent as ever. PNP (Party & Play, Tina parTying) is routine in the sexual lives of many men in NYC. From sites like Adam4Adam and BareBackRT to apps like Grindr and Scruff, the coded messages fly. Meanwhile our community is either silent or stigmatizing, our public officials appear oblivious and unconcerned, and we know far too little about what is going on.

The AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP) is neither a medical provider nor a referral service. We are activists; our meetings are always a Safe from stigma, judgment, guilt or shame. We'll have an open conversation about Meth & Sex, what resources are out there, what we need to have, and how our community can get it. ACT UP demands REAL data, prevention & treatment!
